A hugely hilarious and fun run was held at our club rooms on 28 September in the form of the Cucumber Relay race. More about participation rather than the run itself, a good majority of members turned out to form teams and compete for the “treasured” cucumber trophy! Many members also got into the spirit by donning fancy dress.
The winning team in a time of 22m43s was “The Awesome Foursome”made up of Phoebe McKnight, Kate McNaught, Lucy England and Bayley Rose van der Coolwjik.
Best fancy dress costume went to Maia Baron for her cup-cake costume.
The “relay” required all team members to start off with a 400m run before returning to a makeshift “restaurant”. Once all team members were back at their table, they were served up a small cup of tea (or juice for the children) and a cucumber sandwich. Once all team members had finished their drink and sandwich, they completed a 900m lap of the Petone Recreation Ground, before returning to the “restaurant” for another drink and a pikelet topped with jam and cream, then another lap. Next up was a drink and donut, another lap and one further drink and a cheese roll before one final 900m lap of the Petone Recreation Ground.
