2012 E-Newsletter 21

Hi Everyone

This Saturday we have our last club day at the clubrooms, meeting as usual at 1.30pm. After the club run, everyone will be asked to contribute in some way to clean up of the clubrooms, and packing our belongings into the container. The last day of our season is on the following Saturday 13 October, when our Consolation races will be held at Avalon Park. This will then be followed by our prizegiving on the same night. Plans are underway to make this a fun, enjoyable night.

It is to be held at “THE FOGGY DEW”, High Street, Lower Hutt, on Saturday 13 October at 6pm. We require numbers by this Saturday at the latest, so please email me jbaron@paradise.net.nz if you are able to attend and haven’t already indicated. There should be tickets at the club this Saturday to pick up when you pay for your ticket/s or if you have already paid.

Costs are:
Adults – $25,
14-19yrs – $20
5-13yrs – $10
and under 5s free.

Paying options: If possible, could you please pay online into our account: 03-0543-0330356-000. Ensure you include your Name and the reference Prizegiving. (If you use this option, please also email me jbaron@paradise.net.nz to say you have done so, and details/ages of those attending. If you prefer not to pay online, you can pay at the club on Saturday.

Could you also let me know if you haven’t yet, whether you are available to take part in the PAKNSAVE STOCKTAKE on Sunday 28 October. We still have two spaces available.

Victoria Taylor is getting closer and closer to her target of Bluff. Her plan is to be in Bluff by Thursday, and go to Stewart Island Friday. Tony McKone and I are going across on the ferry early tomorrow morning (Tuesday), then driving down to catch up with her, and join her for the last two to three days of her run. She will then travel back with us to Lower Hutt, and attend prizegiving the following week. The plan at this stage is to be back in Lower Hutt sometime on Saturday. It could be evening though, so not sure if we will be catching up with everyone at Harriers this Saturday. If you are interested in checking out what Victoria’s up to, or donating towards her cause, visit fundraiseonline.co.nz/VictoriaTaylorNZRUN to do so and http://www.facebook.com/followmynzrun. There is a card for Victoria available at the club on Saturday for anyone wishing to sign it who hasn’t already. Also, if anyone wishes to make a donation, that would also be appreciated.

Black jackets and gear bags with our club logo in orange are being given to our U20 and U17 age group members for their use. We ask that these items be returned if members leave the club and they are in good order. For other members: Bags $35. Jackets $40.

(A full syllabus for the season is on our club website)

6 October – Club Run – Clubrooms
13 October – Consolation Races – Avalon Park/Prizegiving

For those who want to enjoy a relaxed hour long run, you are welcome to join Steve Robertson (Deputy Club Captain) who leads a pack run from the Lower Hutt Shoe Clinic at 6pm every Thursday evening. This group also has a small group of walkers. The packs go out for around an hour. Please meet at the Shoe Clinic, High Street, Lower Hutt by 5.55pm.

Speedwork is held every Wednesday evening at the Riverside Carpark (over the stopbank from Countdown Supermarket). We meet at the northern end of the carpark, near Harvey Norman, at 6.15pm.

Speedwork is for anyone who wants to increase their running tempo or who is looking for a more intensive workout than those provided by the Thursday or Saturday pack runs. The programme each night includes warm-ups and running drills, and will include hill running, repetitions and tempo runs as we progress.

Speedwork will be on wet or fine, warm or cold. Harriers is a winter sport and you will get wet – so don’t wimp out if the weather is a bit damp and cold. We’ll adapt the programme to suit the conditions.

Contact simonengland@hotmail.com for further information, or just turn up on Wednesday.

The Shoe Clinic

The Shoe Clinic has once again confirmed that it will continue to sponsor HVH for yet another year. For every dollar members spend on product at the Lower Hutt Shoe Clinic, the Shoe Clinic will donate 10% back to HVH at the end of the year. All you have to do is tell Rob and staff that you are a member of HVH and they will record your purchase to ensure it contributes to a donation for the club.

Supporting the Shoe Clinic means you are supporting the club.

The Mad Butcher

The Lower Hutt Mad Butcher has once again agreed to support our club by providing sausages for our club run day barbeques. We appreciate the support the Mad Butcher gives us and ask members to return this support by considering purchasing your meat produce from the Lower Hutt Mad Butcher.
