NORTH ISLAND CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPS, TAUPO – 4 July
We have more than 40 members competing in Taupo this year. Please advise me if you have not already if you are planning to go to Taupo for the North Island Cross Country Champs on the weekend of 4 July.
The clubrooms will be open for those not going to Taupo.
SELECTION PROCESS FOR CLUB MEMBERS TO REPRESENT THE WELLINGTON CENTRE AT CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS
Athletics Wellington will select teams to represent the Centre at the:
- North Island Cross Country Champs to be held in Taupo on 4 July 2015
- Athletics NZ XC Champs to be held in Christchurch on 1 August 2015
- Athletics NZ Road Champs to be held in Tauranga on 5 September 2015
The key objective is to send competitive teams to these events, where possible. To enable this, the aim is to select:
NIXC: A team of 5 athletes in the SM grade and a team of 3 athletes in all other grades (SW, U20, U18, M35, M50, MW). Additional athletes (up to 3 in each grade) may also be selected where they have demonstrated an ability to finish in the top half of their race.
NZXC / NZ Road: A counting team of 6 athletes in the SM grade, and a counting team of 4 athletes in all other championship grades (SW, U20, U18, M35, M50, MW), where possible. Additional athletes (up to 4 in each grade) may also be selected where they have demonstrated an ability to finish in the top half of their race.
Athletes will be selected based on form in 2015 winter interclub competition. An athlete who has not competed in 2015 interclub, but has proven ability from 2014, will only be considered for selection if there remains a position in the team after all athletes that have competed in 2015 have been considered.
Notice of intention
Athletes wishing to be considered for selection must notify the Selectors of the events they wish to be considered for at least two days prior to the relevant selection date, by completing the online Expression of Interest form: https://goo.gl/MTqFYS
If an athlete subsequently becomes unavailable, the athlete must notify the Selectors immediately.
If an athlete does not make themselves available for selection in the Athletics Wellington team for an event, they will not be able to compete in that event.
No athlete will be considered for selection if they are not recorded on the ANZ membership database as a current member of an Athletics Wellington club.
Selections will be made on the following dates:
Following the Dorne Cup on 13 June 2015:
- The North Island Cross Country Team
- For the NZXC: up to a maximum of 6 in each grade (8 for SM), being athletes which have:
- Positively communicated to the selectors (via both the EOI and directly) a desire to perform to the best of their ability in the NZXC, and
- Demonstrated the ability to comfortably finish in the top half of their race at the NZXC based on performances in winter interclub competition in 2015.
Athletes selected after the Dorne Cup for NZXC are expected to demonstrate fitness by racing in the Wellington XC Championships.
Following the Wellington XC Championships on 18 July 2015:
- The balance of the NZXC team
- For the NZ Road Champs: up to a maximum of 6 in each grade (8 for SM), being athletes which have:

On advice of selection in the team, the athlete must complete an online Athlete Information Form which details the athlete’s travel and accommodation plans, uniform requirements and which must include acceptance of the terms of the Athlete Agreement/Consent form.

Selected athletes will receive a free Athletics Wellington team T-shirt, and the option to purchase a hoody for the reduced price of $30. The Shoe Clinic has once again confirmed that it will continue to sponsor HVH for yet another year. For every dollar members spend on product at the Lower Hutt Shoe Clinic, the Shoe Clinic will donate 10% back to HVH at the end of the year. All you have to do is tell Rob and staff that you are a member of HVH and they will record your purchase to ensure it contributes to a donation for the club.
Supporting the Shoe Clinic means you are supporting the club.
The Mad Butcher
The Lower Hutt Mad Butcher has once again agreed to support our club by providing sausages for our club run day barbeques. We appreciate the support the Mad Butcher gives us and ask members to return this support by considering purchasing your meat produce from the Lower Hutt Mad Butcher.
