Hi Everyone

Last Sunday four of our members competed at Johnsonville in the Masters 8km hill race.  They were all winners in their age-grade:

Angus Wood  –  M45  – 32:01
Darren Gordon  –  M40  – 32:12
John Wood  –  M75  –  38:13
Albert van Veen  –  M65  –  47:15

This Saturday, we are in Waikanae for the Cross Country/Club champs.  At this stage the Clubrooms will be closed, unless someone not going to Waikanae wishes to open them.  Contact me if you want to do this.  The clubrooms will be opened after the race for showers and refreshments.

WELLINGTON CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPS 2015 – Saturday 18 July – Waikanae Park

The Wellington Cross Country Champs (which also doubles as our Club Cross Country Champs) is being held this Saturday, 18 July at Waikanae Park, Park Ave, Waikanae.  It is hosted by Kapiti Running and Tri Club with assistance from Athletics Wellington. The course consists of 2km loops, a mixture of flat and undulating, with two sharp climbs, and it is suitable for spikes.  You must wear your timing chips and club singlets.  DO NOT FORGET YOUR TIMING CHIPS.  Some temporary timing chips will be available at the race, so if you need one, be early.  This is also a teams event, 6 to count for Open Men, and 4 to count in all other grades.

Hutt Valley Harriers are organising/running the Kids Cross Country event being held on Sunday 26 July in the morning at Memorial Park/Sladden Park, Petone.  Doing this assists HVH financially to help cover our costs for the season.  We need assistance with this event; setting up, marshalling, selling sausages, and anything else that needs doing.  We will also have a cake stall, and will ask anyone who is able to contribute to making/baking for this.  Contact Vanessa at if you can assist, or for more information.

BAYS RELAY – Island Bay to Evans Bay – Saturday 8 August 2015

The Bays Relay is a 5-person team interclub event, running from Island Bay to Evans Bay.  You will need to let your selectors know if you wish to compete in this event.  You must be 14 years or older for this event.  Timing chips are not used for the relay.  Race numbers will be allocated to put on your club singlet.
Safety: Roads will not be closed, so be aware of moving traffic at all times.  Competitors must run on the footpath on the seaward side of the road where it is available, except where directed to run elsewhere by the Race Marshals.  If no footpath is available, competitors must run within one metre of the right hand edge of the sealed surface of the roadway.  Competitors and supporters must obey the directions of the Race Referee, Marshals and Traffic Officers at all times.  A two minute penalty or disqualification may be given for infringing the safety and race rules.
Race times are as follows:
10.30am:    Walkers 5km (first lap)
12:30pm:   Women U20;  Senior Women;  Masters Women 35;  Masters men 60+
1:00pm:     Men U2; , Senior Men;  Masters Men 40;  Masters Men 50+

For those who want to enjoy a relaxed hour long run, you are welcome to join Steve Robertson (Deputy Club Captain) who leads a pack run from the Lower Hutt Shoe Clinic at 6pm every Thursday evening. The packs go out for around an hour. Please meet at the Shoe Clinic, High Street, Lower Hutt by 5.55pm.


The Shoe Clinic

The Shoe Clinic has once again confirmed that it will continue to sponsor HVH for yet another year. For every dollar members spend on product at the Lower Hutt Shoe Clinic, the Shoe Clinic will donate 10% back to HVH at the end of the year. All you have to do is tell Rob and staff that you are a member of HVH and they will record your purchase to ensure it contributes to a donation for the club.

The Mad Butcher

The Lower Hutt Mad Butcher has once again agreed to support our club by providing sausages for our club run day barbeques. We appreciate the support the Mad Butcher gives us and ask members to return this support by considering purchasing your meat produce from the Lower Hutt Mad Butcher.
