Saturday 11 June 2016 saw the 90th running of the Dorne Cup in fabulous conditions.  The course, despite rain during the preceding week, held up well to the hundreds of athletes who participated in the six races.

WHAC’s Sarah Drought, who had stuck with the leading bunch through the first 5km of the 6km, race broke away over the last kilometer to win the Senior Womens event.  Nicole Mitchell (Hamilton Hawks) was second, with third place going to Sarah Gardiner (Trentham).

The Masters Women 35+ race was won by Emily Solsber (Scottish) with Renae Creser (Kapiti) and Lindsay Barwick (Scottish) 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The Masters Women 50+ race was won by Vicky Humphries (WHAC) with Sian Cass (Palmerston North) and Betty Harp (Scottish) 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The Masters Men 60+ race was won by Paul Sharp (WHAC) with Tony Price (A&C Masterton) and Marshal Clark (Scottish) 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the final event of the day, a close battle out front of the 140 runners, saw Evan Cooper (Scottish) edge out Tim Hodge (Scottish) by three seconds to win the Senior Men’s 8km race with Marcus Karamanolis (WHAC) 3rd.

The Masters Men 40+ race was won by Stephen Day (Scottish) from Andrew Warton (WHAC) and Joshua Campbell (Trentham) while Dallas McCallum (WHAC) won the Men 50+ from Peter Stevens (Scottish) and David Kettles (Scottish).

The big upset for the day, however, was left for the teams event for the Dorne Cup.  After a recount, the 90th Dorne Cup was won by Wellington Harriers (53 points) from Wellington Scottish (68 points), ending an impressive 19 year winning streak by Scottish.
