This year our club turns 90.
It was on 6 March 1923 when, under the guidance of Olympic Harriers club president, J.W.Scatchard, the Hutt Valley Harriers were formed. The club elected its first committee members, with C.H. Goddard elected as President.
The club had its first run on 7th April 1923 from the Hutt Park.
All current and former members of Hutt Valley Harriers, as well as new members are invited to join us on our opening day, 6 April 2013 as we commence our 90th year. The club’s season will commence with a few opening remarks on our history and what members can expect for the year. We will have a club photo taken of everyone present on opening day and then head out for a run. When we return to the clubrooms we will have a shared afternoon tea.
Our opening day will start at 1:30pm. Meet at the clubrooms at Petone Recreation Ground, Udy Street, Petone, Lower Hutt. Opening speeches will take place at 1:45pm followed by the club photo before going out for a run or walk for up to an hour at 2pm. Afternoon tea will take place in the clubrooms approximately 3:15pm.
Members are asked to bring a plate for the afternoon tea.
