There was much noise about the constitution review during this year’s AGM and partly this was due to a lack of communication of where the process lies.
The committee made a decision some time ago to align with the template being developed for clubs by Athletics New Zealand. While this, and the associated support materials, have taken some time to develop, we believe that it is a sound decision for the club constitution to use this template. There are benefits in discounted legal review and from the amount of effort that has been put in to ensure compliance with the new incorporated societies act.
There will be a club SGM to review and (we hope) approve this new constitution in the near future, and the new constitution must be lodged by 5 April 2026 – otherwise the club will cease to exist as an incorporated society and all of its assets will be disposed of according to the rules of the current constitution (this would be a Bad Thing).
Please take some time to look at the constitution draft (linked below) and provide any feedback, and please be prepared to attend an SGM – this may be a combined physical and online meeting and will be held once we have received results of the legal review of the draft and resolved any issues from that or other feedback.
Current constitution – 29th April 2017
Revised constitution – DRAFT V1.3, September 2025
Send feedback on the draft to Paul Burridge, clubcaptain@hvh.org.nz, by 31st October.
Matt – outgoing secretary.
